Editor’s Note: Events listed in the church calendar must be submitted in writing. Church calendar items are not accepted over the telephone. Information may be e-mailed to levans@thestokesnews.com, faxed to 591-4379. The deadline is 3 p.m. Monday prior to publication. On-going church calendar items will publish the last week of each month. They will publish at other times as space allows. Items may be submitted two weeks prior to the event. Because of space limitations, some announcements only appear the week of the event.

Seeking history—Pinnacle Baptist Church, (formerly Shiloh Baptist), Old Phillips Road, will be celebrating 125 years in August. The Historical Committee plans to publish a church history book and is seeking old pictures, new pictures, publications, papers, or any other information concerning the church history. Copies will be made of all information turned in and the original copy returned to the giver. For more information, contact Lena Hall at 325-3056.

Sat., July 4

July 4th celebration—This celebration will take place at First Christian Church, 625 Meadowbrook Drive, King, on July 4 at 6 p.m, There will be fireworks, free barbecue, hot dogs, drinks, and inflatables. There will also be music: bluegrass at 6 p.m., a gospel quartet at 7 p.m., and a contemporary band at 8 p.m. For more information, call 983-2206.

Food and bake sale—Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church, 6012 Germanton Road, Winston-Salem, will have a hot dog and hamburger take-out and bake sale on July 10 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information, call 924-4712.



Sat., July 11

Yard sale—Union Gospel Baptist Church, 6063 Highway 8, Germanton (next to Germanton Elementary School), will be having a yard sale on July 11 from 7 a.m. – until. They will also be serving breakfast for $5 a plate (eat-in or takeout). Proceeds will go toward the building fund.

Vacation Bible School—South Stokes Church of Christ, located one mile south of King on Old Highway 52, will be having VBS on July 11 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to come and enjoy Bible study, games, and crafts. Men and Women’s Day—On July 12, Pine Hall Baptist Church on Pole Bridge Road will be having Men and Women’s Day at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited. Speakers will be Sister Betty Scales and Brother Elmer Davis.

Mon., July 13

Vacation Bible School—Wildwood Forest VBS will be held at Capella Church of Christ (1187 Flat Shoals Road - off Highway 66) July 13-15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The church invites children to join them nightly for Bible lessons, crafts, games, food and fun. Sat., July 18

Blood drive—Harvest Temple Church of God and Living Word Ministries are hosting a blood drive in memory of Caitlyn Grace Ayers on July 18 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Caitlyn is the daughter of Randy and Sandy Ayers of King. Walk-in space is limited, so appointments are recommended. Please contact Elizabeth Tuttle at 817-2163 to schedule one. All donors will receive a Red Cross t-shirt and a chance to win a gas gift card.

Mon., July 20

Vacation Bible School—VBS will be held at Stokesburg United Methodist Church in Walnut Cove July 20-24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All children from pre-kindergarten through middle school are invited to participate. The theme is Camp E.D.G.E. where rockin’ contemporary music, larger-than-life recreation games, mind-boggling science activities, and challenging crafts will teach kids to live on the E.D.G.E. in their faith.

Thu., July 23

Ministry classes—Classes are being offered to the community on Thursday nights for 14 weeks by the Harvest Temple Church of God, beginning July 23 at 6:30 p.m. The classes will be taught by professors, ministers and church leaders through DVD by the Church of God School of Ministries from Cleveland, TN, with follow-up discussions led by coordinators of the courses. A registration and orientation meeting will be held July 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Harvest Temple Church of God dining room on Newsome Road. A college credit can be earned.
