Elinda Joan (Jody) Rhoden Blanks of King, North Carolina. beloved mother, grandmother, foster mother, sister, aunt and friend, went home to her precious Lord on September 4, 2009, at the age of 59.

Jody Blanks was born on March 20, 1950, to the late Kenneth and Ernestine (Johnson) Rhoden in Albuquerque, NM. She was united in marriage to Gary Blanks on March 1, 1968 in Albuquerque. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends. Being a mother, grandmother and foster mother was a dream fulfilled. She loved her family dearly, and her love and friendship will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gary, of 41 years; three sons, Kenneth and Renea Blanks of Pinnacle, Eric and Amie Blanks of Clemmons, Beau Matthew Blanks of the home; two daughters, Makala Piper Blanks and Macie Grace Blanks, of the home; five grandchildren, Ethan Martell, Zachary Blanks, Emma Blanks, Abigail Blanks and Isabella Blanks. She also leaves behind two sisters, Maxine and Jim Roach of Los Lunas, NM, and Gail Rhoden of Albuquerque, NM.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. at Rural Hall Moravian Church, with Rev. Steve Craven officiating. The family will receive friends following the celebration service at the church. FULCHER

Harvey Glenn “Smiley” Fulcher, 72, of 189 Martin Farm Road, Stuart, VA, died after a brief illness, Thursday, September 3, 2009, at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. He was born in Patrick Co., on April 23, 1937, to the late Henry Russell Fulcher and Julia Boone Feazell Fulcher. He was retired after 30 years of services with J.P.S. Elastomerics. He was a member of Critz Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on the building and grounds committee. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Glenn will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and many wonderful friends.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Ellen Martin Fulcher of the home; six daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Randy Pruitt of Stuart, Donna and Joe Plaster of Pleasanton, CA., Carol and Teddy Tilley of Lawsonville, Glenda and Terry Johnson of Knoxville, TN., Janice and Mike Spencer of Danbury, and Dianne and Ronnie Tilley of Westfield; two sisters, Ruth Fulcher of Stuart and his twin sister, Gladys Collins of Patrick Springs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Florence Fulcher of Bassett and Samuel and Bettye Fulcher of Collinsville; 16 grandchildren, Michele Mabe and husband Eric, Dena Mabe and husband Joey, Stacey Tilley, Thad Spencer, Ashley Hall and husband Andy, Eric and Alex Johnson, Bradley and Austin Tilley, Taylor, Grant, and Dylan Plaster, Jacob, Julie, Jenna, and Jadyn Pruitt; 10 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Corbin, Lily, Logan, Aleah and Treyson Mabe, Emily Hall, Haley and Blake Nunn and Justin Cardwell and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Fulcher, Lucille Wyatt, Elma Gilley and Sallie Law; one brother, Calvin Fulcher and one grandchild, Shawn Tilley.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2009, at the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, Burial will be in the High Point Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Patrick County Food Bank at P.O. Box 912, Stuart, VA 24171.

HAYDEN

Mr. Robert Lee Hayden, 80, went into eternal rest on Monday, September 7, 2009, at Stokes Reynolds Hospital. He was born in Stokes County to Alvin and Lillian Goins Hayden. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Brook Cove Plant with 35 years of service.

Hayden was a faithful and dedicated Christian at Friends Baptist Church, where he appreciated his pastor and church family. He was a member of Closer Walk Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. One of his greatest pleasures before his illness was going to church and doing what he could for the Lord. . He loved people, gardening, and doing things for others. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.

Daniel Lee Hayden welcomed his Dad home Monday morning where he also joined his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Tuttle and Audrey Southern and one brother, Donald Hayden.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Faye Overby Hayden of the home; son, Dennis (Sandy) Hayden and grandson, Brandon of Germanton; sister, Lois (Grady) East of Walnut Cove; two brothers, Harold Wayne (Pat) Hayden of Walnut Cove and Harvey (Marta) Hayden of Germanton; a host of nieces and nephews; and his canine friend, Lucky.

A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ralph Mitchell and Pastor Kenny Heath officiating. Burial will follow in the Quaker Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on September 9 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

The Hayden Family would like to thank the entire staff at Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital and Dr. Day for their help, encouragement, and prayers during Robert’s illness.

MANUEL

Mrs. Lena Joy Mabe Manuel, 90, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Stokes County to Jerry and Mattie Mabe Mabe. She was a homemaker and retired as cook from Manuel’s Restuarant in 1995. She was a member of Union Gospel Baptist Church. She loved her family and was very loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers. Surviving are three sons, Jim (Regina) Manuel, John (Wanda) Manuel, and Elmer (Carolyn) Manuel; seven grandchildren, Jerry (Pam) Manuel, Cheryl (Robert) Crews, James (Lori) Manuel, Karen Manuel, Susan (Billy) Locey, Allison (Ricky) Johnson, and Connie Clifton; 11 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua, Jayden, Tanner, Seth, Kelsey, Vanessa, Lee, Stacie, Will, and Ben; and one sister, Nancy Mabe.

A 2:00 p.m. funeral service was held Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Darrell Hampton and Bro. Jerry Manuel officiating. Burial followed in the Danbury Cemetery. The family received friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on September 8 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Elmer and Carolyn Manuel. Memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
