The North Stokes Lady Vikings opened up the 2010 season with a nonconference track victory against Starmount and Forbush last week.

The girls had 117 points to take the team win while North’s boys finished second.

Tess Rogers took first in the girls’ pole vault and long jump, also finished third in the 200 dash.

Jordan Amos placed first in the 1600 and 3200 run.

Whitney Thompson had the top time in the 800 run and was second in the long jump.

Taylor York was first in the high jump and third in the 400 dash event.

North Stokes went 1-2-3 in the shot put and discus events - with defending 1A state champion Shandellah Martin taking first and Allison Tilley and Arminda Bullins coming in second and third.

Bullins also took first in the discus, with Breann Southern and Jessica Amos rounding out the top three.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth Klapmeyer was second in the 400 dash, Alli Nickell was second in both the 1600 and 3200 run, Erin Condon was third in the 1600, Marley Bollman took third in pole vault and the Lady Vikings’ 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams took first and second, respectively.

On the boys side, Justin King won both the shot put and discus events for the Vikings.

Sean Nickell, a qualifier for the Nike Indoor Nationals this past weekend and also a defending 1A pole vault state champion, took first place in his event.

Cody Bennett had the top spot in the 300 hurdles and Travis Sexton was fastest in the 1600 and second in the 3200.

Zach York and Keith Brown made it a Vikings’ sweep in the pole vault, placing second and third behind Nickell.

Elsewhere, Patrick Hargrave was second in the 200 and the high jump, Brown was second in the 800, Austin Edmonds was third in the 800, Justin Cherry placed third in the shot put, Ryan Tucker was second in the 110 hurdles and third in both the high jump and triple jump and North’s 4x400 and 4x800 teams took second and third respectively.
