A benefit bike ride for Inspire Stokes County on Saturday helped raise around $7,000 to help build a special needs playground at Germanton Park. Local businesses donated $2,475 for the event and the benefit itself raised $4,525. “Kim and Kent Burwell were the auctioneers for our event,” said Christy Ferguson, a board member of Inspire Stokes County. “Tresa and Tim Purdy are the proprietors of Our Place who hosted the event for us. Billy Manuel, the proprietor of Snake Ranch Cycles, allowed us to hold registration for the ride at his place. We want to thank them and many, many, more that helped with the event.” Inspire Stokes County plans to build a wheelchair accessible swing and a full body support swing, and organizers say they hope to raise an additional $5,000 through future events to be able to add additional equipment to the swing. Inspire Stokes County will also be holding another fundraising event on Oct. 23 featuring the Tortuga Twins.
