Stokes Partnership for Children (SPC) announces a free contest for families of young children, age birth to five and not yet in kindergarten. The winning prize is a family four pack of tickets to Tiger World, located in Rockwell, NC and a $50 Visa gift card. Entries into the contest will help SPC raise funds for early literacy programs in the county. Families, whose children receive books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Reach Out and Read or through any of Stokes Partnership for Children’s programs or events, are eligible to enter.
Parents are invited to upload photos or videos of their child enjoying these books. The purpose of the contest is to support the fundraising efforts necessary to pay for the books. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library makes it easier to keep the cost as low as possible and pays for the postage to mail books out each month to Stokes County’s young children. However, SPC’s cost to provide these high quality books to EVERY age eligible young child in Stokes County, once per month until they turn 5, can add up. On the average SPC pays $2.75 per book. Currently there are over 500 children receiving books, with the potential to enroll over 2,000.
SPC’s largest fundraiser, BBQ for Books, is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. and will be held at the beautiful Moore’s Springs Manor located at the foot of Hanging Rock State Park. During the event, SPC wants the audience to understand how important books are to children. This is true not only because books are fun, but because they help children to develop vital early literacy skills, which are important to future success in school and beyond. Using submitted photos and videos, SPC will create a heartwarming photo/video presentation reflecting the joy children have for books. By viewing this, BBQ for Books ticket holders will get to see the impact they are making in the lives of children by supporting and participating in the fundraising activities during the event.
Details, rules and instructions for entry can be found on the SPC website at www.stokespfc.com. The deadline for entry is Friday, November 6, 2015. Multiple photos and videos may be entered, but only one chance per family will be entered into the drawing. The drawing for tickets to Tiger World will be held at BBQ for Books. Tiger World is a nonprofit animal conservation and educational center dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation, and preservation of exotic animals.
BBQ for Books is an annual fundraiser to benefit early literacy. Sam and Pam Hooker have generously donated the use of their beautiful facility, Moore’s Springs Manor, as the event venue.
