An opening reception will be held in honor of Craig Richards on Friday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Apple Gallery at the Stokes County Arts Council, 500 N. Main Street, Danbury, NC. His exhibit of beautiful works of art will be on display during the month of November 2015. The public is invited to attend this free event.

Richards has a deep love for the outdoors, spending much of his free time climbing, paddling, and hiking. This love is reflected in the essence of his paintings and sculptures. His paintings are primarily in oils reflecting a variety of styles. His sculptures combine the feel of the natural world coupled with sparks of modern elements.

He is the founding member of Triad Outdoor Painters, a group of local artists who paint together in the North Carolina Piedmont and Foothills. He is also the Vice President of Muddy River Art Association. For more information regarding these two organizations, please visit www.triadoutdoorpainters.com or www.muddyriverart.org.

Richards has many accolades to his credit — Winner 1st place “Clifford Morrison Memorial Art Contest” Foothills Arts Council 2013; winner 1st place Mount Vale Vineyard 2013; winner 2nd place Brock Performing Arts Center 2013; winner 2nd place “Jeb Stuart Art Show” Reynolds Homestead 2013; winner Best in Show “Paint the Town” Lillington, ElevenOne Studios 2013; winner People’s Choice Award, Mount Vale Vineyard 2012; winner 2nd place Muddy River Art Association Annual Contest 2012.

Richards studied sculpture at Montclair State University, Montclair, New Jersey and has participated in workshops with renown artists Heiner Hertling, Christine Sarazine, John Budicin, D. Eleinne Basa, Laura Robb, Louis Escobedo, and Ralph James. He regularly attends Figure Painting/Sketch Sessions with Sue Lyon and Scott Burdick.

The class is enjoyed by beginners and experienced artist alike, covering composition, values, color and impression in the tradition of French and American Impressionism but with individual attention to student works.
