Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program coming to Francisco

Stokes Cooperative Extension announces the 2016 Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Training Class will be held at the Francisco Community Building in Francisco starting Jan. 15, 2015. The annual training class is a prerequisite for becoming a Certified Extension Master Gardener Volunteer. Master Gardeners are those who are excited about gardening, who want to learn more, and who want to share that knowledge with those in their communities. Master Gardeners maintain teaching and demonstration gardens and teach classes on a wide array of topics from vermicomposting to solitary bee houses.

The class will meet on Fridays from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. for 16 consecutive weeks. The fee for the class is $65. This includes access to the online edition of the Master Gardener Training Manual containing 350 pages of the latest research-based gardening information. Hard copies of the manual are available for an additional $40. A limited number of scholarships are available courtesy of the Stokes Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association.

Interested persons should contact Stokes Cooperative Extension Horticulture Agent and Master Gardener Coordinator Randy Fulk at 336-593-8179 or via email at randy_fulk@ncsu.edu to request an application. Completed applications and the applicable fees are due by December 31, 2015.
