The King Chamber of Commerce and merchants in the downtown King area are planing a special Christmas Open House for Thursday, Dec. 10.
King Chamber of Commerce Director Cathy Loveday said a number of downtown merchants are staying open until at at least 8 p.m. for the event to give people a chance to shop locally for the holidays.
“We are doing this to help promote the downtown businesses and encourage people to stay local and buy local,” said Loveday. “This is a great chance for local people to do some Christmas shopping and explore all of the new business that have come to the downtown King area in the past year.
“Come enjoy some holiday cheer with your merchant neighbors and get ready for the holidays with a nice relaxed evening in downtown King,” she added, noting that many businesses would be offering refreshments during the event.
The Chamber offices will also be open during the event with refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.
Participating businesses include, Gentry’s Store, Terry’s Furniture and Gun Shop, Petals, Metals and Wood, Miss Joyce Dance Studio, Mickey and Company, The Ladies Loft, The Wooden Ladder, Dalton’s Crossing, Time Bruce Art Gallery, Village Outdoors, By Foot Sports and Friend to Friend.
Several national studies have shown that spending money with local business creates a multiplier effect to help spur the local economy.
