Low income heating assistance program kicks off

Stokes County Department of Social Services began taking applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) on Dec.1 for households containing a member age 60 and above or a disabled person receiving a service through the Division of Aging and Adult Services. Applications will be accepted at the Stokes County Department of Social Services in Danbury Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

If funds remain available after Dec. 31, any other eligible households may apply from Jan. 4, 2016 through March 31, 2016, or until funds are exhausted.

Applicants must present social security numbers for all household members, proof of income for all household members, a photo ID and account information for the heat source used in the home.

LIEAP is a federally-funded program that provides a one-time vendor payment to help eligible households pay their heating bills during the cold weather months. You may also call the DSS office at (336)593-2861 with questions.
