U.S. 311 bridge replacement delayed

Construction on the U.S. 311 bridge over Rickers Branch has been delayed again due to delays from Piedmont Natural Gas.

North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) officials said the most recent delay means that section of U.S. 311 is now scheduled to be closed on Feb. 15 reopened on June 3.

The project location is just west of the 311 Speedway entrance.

The signed detour route around the closed portion of US 311 will be as follows: NC Hwy 772 to Madison Road (SR 1729) and vice versa. There will be no driveways within the closed portion.

The TIMS entry can be found at the following link:

This is a very small, single span bridge.

The bridge was built in 1925 and is considered ‘Functionally Obsolete’.

After the roadway is closed, the bridge will be removed and a new culvert built. The new roadway (grassed) shoulders will be continuous over the top of the culvert and other than the new guardrail, most people will never know they crossed it.
