Mary Bondurant Williams, 60, of 1040 Wilburn Ln., died Wednesday night following a single vehicle accident on William Fowler Road approximately 0.2 miles south of Chestnut Grove Road.

Police say Williams was driving her 1999 ford passenger car northwest on William Fowler Road at approximately 5:45 p.m. at an estimated speed of 45 miles per hour when her vehicle slid due to snow on the roadway, crossed over the center line, struck a highway sign and overturned while traveling down an embankment before coming to rest upside-down in a creek.

Police said Williams was trapped in her vehicle which was partially submerged in the creek when they found her.

They said she was traveling too fast for the roadway conditions, but noted she was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed during the course of the accident.

Police estimated the car sustained $3,500 in damages.

Officials urged all motorists to slow down and use caution while driving whenever there is winter weather.
