Brian Kevin Payne,38, of 9751 NC Hwy 89, Westfield, is facing two counts of larceny and two counts of possession of stolen property following a report of larceny from LTD Farm and Garden in King on Jan. 21.
Stokes County Sheriffs Office Det. Joey Lemons said the theft of a chainsaw and chainsaw bars from the store was caught on store video cameras.
“Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division began investigating the case, and obtained the video footage from the store,” he said. “Photos of the video were shown on the Stokes County Sheriffs Office social media outlets, and leads began developing to identify the suspect. Detectives followed up on those leads, and were able to identify Brian Payne as the person on video.”
Lemons said Payne was charged and arrested for the theft, and detectives were able to recover the stolen property taken.
“Being able to not only hold criminals responsible, but also being able to get back stolen property to return to victims of crimes is our first priority in working these cases,” said Sheriff Mike Marshall. “I also want to thank the public for their assistance in identifying this suspect.”
