Sheriff warns of counterfeit bills

A number of stores in the Walnut Cove area have received counterfeit $100 bills in the last week, according to Stoke County Sheriff Mike Marshall.

He said the Dollar General on Hwy. 65 received two counterfeit bills between Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.

Ingles grocery store and the ABC Store each received one counterfeit bill on Jan. 27 and the Walnut Cove CVS received one on Jan. 29.

“If anyone has any information on these cases for them to call the Stokes County Sheriff office at 336-593-8787 or Stokes County Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8506,” said Marshall,noting the cases are still under investigation.

King Police Chief Paula May said several counterfeit $100 bills had also recently been reported in the King area.
