Do not miss out on the 7th Annual Feed Stokes 5K, Half Marathon & Jock Lloyd Challenge on March 12. This is definitely the best Half Marathon course in the Triad area. Runners and walkers receive cool long sleeve tech shirts, trophies for the top overall finishers, finisher’s medals and hot pancakes after the run! But more importantly all proceeds go to the Stokes County Food Banks.
Donations from Feed Stokes organization have contributed more than $25,000 over the past six years to three Stokes County Food Banks. Many Stokes County residents depend upon these banks to bridge the gap between what they have and the needs of their families. In addition to donated money and food for food banks, members of Feed Stokes started the Jock Lloyd Challenge, a road race in honor of the former South Stokes High School teacher who was an avid runner and was instrumental in encouraging others to run.
The Jock Lloyd Challenge will take the idea of contributing to the food banks to the next level. The race will be the first in the county specifically designed to address childhood obesity and to promote healthy living through running. Members of Feed Stokes are confident the race will help launch a new county-wide initiative to address the problems that come with sedentary living.
