A Walnut Cove woman lost her life in a single vehicle accident on Hwy. 8 last week, according to reports from the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Trooper M.D. Ramey said Sherry Hill Madison, 72, of Walnut Cove, was driving a 1993 Toyota passenger car south on Hwy. 8 approximately 0.1 miles from Bolejack Rd. when her vehicle ran off the road.
According to the report, Madison over-corrected and crossed the center lane before over-correcting again and running off of the right side of the road where the Toyota collided with a tree before coming to rest in a wooded area facing southwards.
Ramey estimated that Madison was traveling 45 miles per hour at the time of the accident.
He reported that she was not wearing a seat belt, but was not ejected from the vehicle. The report indicates that the car’s airbags did deploy on impact.
