The Pinnacle Garden Club sponsored a Smokey Bear Woodsy Owl poster contest at the Pinnacle Elementary School this year. Since 1961, the U.S. Forest Service and the National Garden Clubs, Inc have worked together to sponsor an annual poster contest that reaches elementary children throughout the United States. The contest helps promote Smokey Bear and his fire prevention message “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires” and Woodsy Owl and his conservation message “Lend a Hand – Care for the Land”.

The club received posters from 44 students and a winner was chosen from each grade. The winners were announced at the Pinnacle Elementary PTO meeting on Thursday, March 17. The winning posters have been sent to the state competition. Those winners will be announced in April at the State Garden Club Meeting.

Each winner received a Certificate of Participation, a $10.00 Award and a copy of his or her poster.

The coordinator for this project was Marie Gordon of the Pinnacle Garden Club. She will present each of the other 39 students with a Certificate of Participation and give them their poster back at school.

She said “We feel this has been a great project for our club and are very happy with the number of student who participated.”
