The Stokes County Sheriff Office is investigating an alleged gambling operation at Andy’s Mart in the Germanton community.

Det. Sgt. Wade White said officers executed a search warrant at the business on Friday afternoon after an undercover investigation and multiple calls complaining that there were illegal electronic poker machines in use at the property.

“There will be charges in the near future,” he said. “We have not completely finished the investigation and still have a lot of interviews to do. We had been receiving a lot of reports. They have been in business for little while now. There will be several arrests made.”

He said officers removed the hard drives from at least five machines during the investigation.

“I believe that there are probably some more places in the county with similar operations,” said White. “They may be more low key or low profile, but it is a big way for them to make a large amount of money very quickly.”

White said police were not seeking charges against users of the machines.

“I am after the ones who are putting these in places to be used,” he said, noting that he would appreciate any calls from local residents with tips of other locations in the county where the illegal machines could be in use. “You can reach me at 593-5475.”
