On Friday the 13th of May, don’t let superstition keep you home! King Central Park will be buzzing with activity as the 9th Annual FUNday will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free community event will have food, activities, and entertainment for the whole community. In past years, several hundred people have come out to celebrate FUNday hosted by CenterPoint Human Services (CenterPoint) and Insight Human Services, Inc.
This day of fun for the whole family was created to promote an enjoyable lifestyle and a meaningful experience for individuals within the community. The event was developed as a tool to reduce stigma related to mental health challenges and to raise awareness of the impact mental health has on the community as a whole.
The event is sponsored through several local businesses, donors, and nonprofits. Local community partners including Hanging Rock State Park, South Stokes FFA, Stokes Family YMCA, as well as others are actively involved in the event.
Insight Human Services will provide free popcorn and sno cones, and CenterPoint along with CFAC will offer free hot dogs, chips and drinks. The day will be made a “little sweeter” with donuts donated by the Krispy Kreme family on University Parkway.
Many prizes will be won as individuals participate in activities such as bingo, corn hole, skee ball, and more! Along with the prizes and food, large inflatables and face painting will be some of the fun activities.
Other sponsors like the City of King, Healthy Carolinians, The Stokes Community Collaborative, The CenterPoint Consumer and Family Advisory Committee (CFAC), Anue, Inc., PQA Healthcare, Bayada, Cooke Rentals, A Higher Bounce, the Stokes Arts Council, Stokes County Cooperative Extension and James River Equipment add to the event by supplying food, prizes, equipment and more.
Don’t be too scared to come out on this Friday the 13th. You will experience a “FUNday” you won’t forget.
