“To be or not to be” is not the question. The question is: how do you make Shakespeare fun?

The South Stokes Theatre Department has found the answer to that question by presenting an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream that has many of the Beatles classic love songs such as Can’t Buy Me Love, With a Little Help From My Friends, Yesterday, and All You Need Is Love,

Adapted by Christina and Peter Holland, Beatles Dream is the perfect introduction to Shakespeare and Beatles music. This production is very kid friendly. Parents and grandparents will have a wonderful time with their favorite young people as they become involved with Shakespeare’s timeless story of star crossed lovers, fools and fairies, and would be rock stars.

Performances of Beatles Dream will take place at SSHS Auditorium on Thursday and Friday, May 19th and 20th at 7:00PM, Saturday, May 21st at 2PM and at 7:00PM.

Tickets, which can be purchased at the door, are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

Students in the production include Garrett Howell, Amanda Myers, Maggie Reid, Chandler Hicks, Jordan Zeigler, Will Skinner, Yaretzy Segura, Samantha Keisling, Caiman Neese, Austin Hincher, Jack Lee, Michal Phillips, Ryan Rice, Harmony Templon, Joseph Calloway, Dominic Bridges, Celia Castaldo, Hannah Ross, Maya Burgess, Hannah Rominger, Kimberly Boles, Sierra Anderson, Cheyenne Booth, Gabrielle Chenault, Peyton Sanford, Stacy Barnes, Ethan Honeycutt, Joseph Booth, Samantha Miller, Sandy Uselton, Alijah Wood, Carmen Flinchum, Manuel Espino, Kirsten Loy, Oli Reid, Dylan Drosick, Jada Moore, McKinzie Loy, Amber Tucker, Destanie Harvey, Autumn Wilson, Amy Christie, and Nora Skinner. This production also has an assistant student director, Caiman Neese.

Beatles Dream and SSHS Theatre Director, Christina Holland, recently spoke about the upcoming production:

“After performing a very serious play in the fall- Arthur Miller’s The Crucible- I wanted to give the students the opportunity to do something that was fun, as well as educational. I’m so proud of all the work they have done on this show. Some of the students have even learned how to play musical instruments for the play.”

Make your plans now to bring the whole family to see Beatles Dream. If you like to laugh, love Beatles songs, and believe in fairies, this is the show for you!
