Rescue crews are in the second day of a search for a 57-year-old Eden man who went missing in Belews Lake on Friday.

Stokes County EMS spokesman Brandon Gentry said the department received a call for help at around 1:21 p.m. on Friday after James Russel Bateman disappeared.

“He was on a boat with a girlfriend and was in the water and went missing,” said Gentry. “He was in the main channel near the Pine Hall boat landing.”

Approximately 10 rescue crews searched for Bateman until 9:30 p.m. on Friday and resumed the search early Saturday morning.

“We are just doing daytime operations at this time,” said Gentry, noting that the Pine Hall boat landing will have very limited access while the search is underway. “If anyone sees Bateman please call 911.”
