Construction of a planned community built playground in King Recreation Acres has been postponed from this fall until April 2017.
Make a Difference in King Board Member Terri Fowler told the King City Council on Monday that postponing the build would make it easier for the community to raise funds for the playground.
“We found out that a lot of corporations have already promised the funds they would have available for community projects,” she said. “There have been several that have told us we are on their radar, but it would have to be after Jan. 1, 2017, before they could donate.”
She said that plans for other fundraising events like a golf tournament and a money giveaway, had run into conflicts with other local civic groups which had already planned similar events.
“These people want to help us and we don’t want to interfere with what they are doing,” she said, noting that postponing the actual construction date would allow Make A Difference in King time to schedule the events at times that would not be a conflict.
She said the new build days would be set for April 3 through April 9, noting that those dates were set to try match up with area spring breaks.
