The Student Campaign for Suicide Prevention (SCSP) will be hosting its Tomorrow is Certain at the Stokes Early College High School in Walnut Cove, on Sept. 23 from 4:30 until 8:30 p.m.
This event is an effort to help lower the suicide rate in Stokes County, where we once were ranked number three in the state. It will include booths from various different local and state resources such as: Cardinal Innovations Healthcare, Insight Human Services, Daymark Recovery Services, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), Mental Health Association, Youth Haven, Youth M.O.V.E., and many others.
There will be free food, music, games (carnival style games, capture the flag, and pie-in-the-face), a car show, guest speakers and a memorial event to conclude the entire the event. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come! The car show will feature six classes including trucks, cars, and motorcycles. Entry fee is $15 per vehicle. For more information visit http://sscsp.weebly.com/ or call Austin Love at 336-816-9209.
Suicide is known to be a silent killer. This event will show the general public what signs to look for while also having fun. There won’t be the negative atmosphere that typically come with a discussion on suicide, as it is often stigmatized and misunderstood.
But guess what? It is a MYTH that talking about suicide will put the idea in someone’s mind, and it is actually more likely to prevent suicide than cause it. This myth and many others will be proved at the event in an entertaining way for kids to seniors!
