County runners race for titles

West Stokes Chancey Gunnell pulls out the win in the 100 meter dash. Shay Blakey comes in second, Andrea Staylor third, and South Stokes Cheyanne Barber fourth.


Athletes from around the county came out to compete in the Mighty Vikings Invitational at North Stokes.


West Stokes Collin Marot and North Stokes Junior Fulks race to the finish line in the final lap of the 1600 meter run.


West Stokes senior Josh Adkins won the 1600 meter run and placed second in the 400 meter.


South Stokes Matthew Mudd won the 400 meter dash and finished third in the long jump.


North Stokes freshman Jacob McGee comes in second in the 3200 meter run.


Sofia Miceli digs deep to finish second place in the 1600 meter run.


Lauren Roden clears the hurdle to place second in the 300.


North Stokes hosted the annual Stokes Track and Field Championship. These are the top three competitors in each event:

North Stokes

Junior Emma Frye won the 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.

In the 1600 meter run, Lauren Collins won and finished second place in the 3200 meter run.

In the 800 meter run Brandy Bolens placed second and Bailey Durham third.

Karley Jessup finished second in the 400 meter dash.

Bailey Bollman placed second in the long jump, and third in the triple jump.

Katie McHone placed second in the 100 meter hurdles.

The Lady Vikings swept the high jump with Megan Condon coming in first, Lauren Charleville second, and Madison Sexton third. Condon also won the shot put and discus throw.

Hailey Sheppard won the ladies pole vault and Bollman came in third.

Sheppard came in second in discus throw and third in shot put. Amber Robertson finished third in discus.

North Stokes ladies team won the women’s 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800 and placed second in the 4×100.

Nicholas Delp placed third in the 800 meter run.

Dawson Durham finished second in the 1600 and Jacob McGee third. Durham won the 3200 and McGee finished second.

North Stokes 4×400 and 4×800 team came in second place.

In the men’s high jump Austin Pruitt won, Josh McQuinn finished second and Laith Nickell third.

Nickell won the pole vault event, Mark Tucker came in second, and Zach Chesnet third.

Senior Ross Lucia won the shot put and discus throw.

South Stokes

Lauren Collins came in second place in the pole vault and third in the 200 meter dash.

Kelleigh Mitchell finished second in the triple jump and third in the long jump.

Nicole Rogers placed third in the 1600 meter run and Elizabeth Byers took third in the 3200 meter.

In the shot put, Nellie Hopper placed second.

South ladies team won the 4×100, finished second in the 4×200 and 4×800.

Keelan Goodwin won the 200 meter dash, 110 meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.

Matthew Mudd won the 400 meter dash and finished third in the long jump.

Cody Rogers won the 800 meter run and John Kevin Fischer came in second place. Fischer finished third in the 3200 meter.

Kendall Thomas won the 300 meter hurdles and placed second in the 100 meter dash.

Deshaun Reynolds finished second in the 300 hurdles, and Javon Gore third.

In the 110 meter hurdles Kenneth Thomas came in second and Gore third. Thomas also placed second in the long jump.

Matt Patane finished second in discus and third in the shot put event.

South Stokes men’s team won the 4×100, finished second in the 4×200 and third in the 4×400.

West Stokes

Senior Kaitlyn Stone won the 800 meter and 3200 meter run.

Chancey Gunnell won the 100 and 400 meter dash, Shay Blakely placed second in the 100 meter, and Andrea Staylor third.

Blakey won the 200 meter dash and Gunnell placed second.

Erin Duke placed third in the 400 meter.

In the 1600 meter run, Sofia Miceli came in second place.

Lauren Roden came in second in the 300 meter hurdles.

West Stokes ladies team placed second in the 4×400.

Senior Josh Adkins won the 1600 meter run and placed second in the 400 meter.

John Connolly won the 100 meter dash and Tyler Hunter came in third.

In the 200 meter dash, Connolly placed second and Nicholas Breen third.

In the 400 meter, Adkins came in second and Thomas Rutherford third.

Dustin Blevins placed third in the triple jump.

Josh Goad came in second in the shot put event and third in discus.
