Family, neighbors, friends and even Buford Kegley (98.1 FM Galax Radio) came together Sunday, August 30, in celebration of Alma Dunkley’s 94th birthday. Everyone that knows Alma, knows just how special this lady is. Her handmade quilts are on many a bed (mine included) and her fried apple pies are a staple at every Ladies Auxiliary Bazaar. I went to visit Alma Sunday afternoon after her party. I could tell she was really tired but not too tired to talk. I asked her about being 94 years young and her reply was quite simple, “I’ve always tried to help everybody.” And that she has. Alma Dunkley is a Francisco treasure and a blessing to so many people (me and my family included).
I know at least 250 more 50th Anniversary North Stokes High School Books have been ordered. The group that put this together really did a wonderful job! I have so enjoyed looking at mine. If you haven’t gotten one yet, these will be in shortly.
Don’t forget the Gun Raffle and Poor Man’s Supper at the Francisco Community Building, September 12, starting at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $20 and this includes 2 suppers. Proceeds go toward the community building upkeep.
Fall Festival Bingo will be at the Francisco Community Building Saturday, September 19. Hot Dogs will be available from 6:00 – 7:00 pm and the games start at 7:00. The price is $20 for 20 games. Prizes will have a “fall” theme. Sounds like fun. Hope you can join us.
