The American Red Cross is having a Blood Drive on Saturday, November 21 at Sandy Ridge Community Center from 9:00 – 1:30. If you want to make an appointment, call Lena Priddy at 871-2529. Appointment is not necessary.

The Northeast Stokes Fire Department Stew will be Saturday, November 21. Stew will be ready at 11:00 a. m. for pickup for $6.00/qt. A pancake breakfast fundraiser will also be served at 7:00 a. m. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for ages 10 and under. Money raised will be used to purchase equipment for their new rescue truck.

Sandy Ridge Elementary School’s Coat Drive ended November 10, but they are still accepting donations of coats for children in need. You may also donate school supplies, and these can be dropped off at the school or at Dollar General.

Sandy Ridge Ruritan Club is having a toy and food drive on December 5 at Northeast Stokes Fire Department beginning at 6:00 p. m. These toys will go to Oak Ridge Baptist Church where Donna Mitchell will help with the distribution to social services and The Salvation Army. The annual tree lighting will also take place and Santa will be visiting and will be available for “pictures with Santa”.

Oak Ridge Baptist Church is the Shoebox Relay Center for 2015 for churches and individuals. This will begin November 16 and end November 23. Boxes may be dropped off at the church. Go online for drop off times or call the church office at 871-9912 for additional information.

A good time was had by all at Sandy Ridge Music Association’s monthly bluegrass and gospel music event which is held the second Saturday of every month at Sandy Ridge Community Center beginning at 6:00 p. m.

Caramel Apple Cake with Caramel Topping


2 ½ cups sugar

3 eggs

1 ½ cups vegetable oil

3 cups all -purpose flour

2 tsp. vanilla

1 cup chopped walnuts

2 ½ cups diced apples (canned or fresh) I always use fresh apples.


¾ cup butter

2 cups brown sugar

¼ cup milk

1. Lightly grease and flour 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream together sugar, eggs, and oil. Add flour; mix together until well blended. Add vanilla, nuts, and diced apples.

2. Spread into pan; bake for 45 to 60 minutes. Cake is done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

3. When cake is done, punch holes in it with a knife and pour topping over.

4. Topping: Heat all ingredients together over medium heat. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Let boil for about 2 minutes and pour over warm cake. (Paula Deen recipe) This is delicious!
