The Sandy Ridge Elementary School’s holiday concert on Dec. 10th was wonderful! The kids did an awesome job. They had an unexpected “special” visitor. Santa Claus!

The Sandy Ridge Elementary School PTA is having a food drive through December 18th. You can bring your donations by the school. These food items will go to the Northern Stokes Food Pantry. Samantha Brown urges everyone to please support this food pantry that helps families in need in our area.

Thanks to all who came out for Sandy Ridge Music Association’s bluegrass and gospel music on Dec. 12th. The Chords of Faith and Debbie Bennett performed, and they were wonderful. Most memorable was a song that Rosemary Martin sang for her dad. Mr. Francis is 94 and is terminally ill. Hospice has been called in to help the family care for him. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Lena Priddy of Oak Ridge Baptist Church is reminding everyone of the annual covered dish social which be held in the church fellowship hall on Saturday, December 19th at 6 p. m. The Children’s Christmas program will be Sunday, December 20th at 5 p. m. This past Sunday, the 13th, the members had a lunch for the missionary speaker who spoke during the morning worship service.

Our sincere condolences go out to the following families:

Nita Sands and Anthony McMillon who passed away on December 7th. Also, Renee Steele Richardson and Lois Amos who passed away on December 8th.

Kay Isabel and her mother, Lena Priddy, attended East Stokes Outreach Ministries annual Christmas dinner for volunteers on Thursday, December 10th, at Stokesburg Methodist Church in Walnut Cove. Thanks to both of you for the time you donate to this cause.

Madeline Watkins of Delta United Methodist Church says to mark your calendars for their annual Christmas Play and Candlelight Service which will be on Sunday, December 20th, at 6 p. m. The play is titled, “Faces Around The Manger.” Also, thanks to Pastor Jim Prichard and wife, Sonia, for hosting an open house at the parsonage on December 13th.

Congratulations to Raygan Hawkins of Sandy Ridge for her wonderful performance in “The Nutcracker” on December 11th and 12th at the Reynolds Auditorium. She is a very talented and beautiful young lady.

If you have not been to see the “Lights on Beasley”, please take the kids by for a wonderful experience. Located on 3406 Beasley School Road (just off Amostown Road), this display by Tory Mabe is like no other.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“I am old but I am forever young at heart. We are always the same age inside. Know that you are the perfect age. Each year is special and precious, you can only live it once. Do not regret growing older, it’s a privilege denied to many!” ——Richard Gere

TRIED AND TASTED RECIPES

Vegetable Casserole

This recipe was given to me by a dear friend, Viola Hill.

2 cans mixed vegetables, drained

1 medium onion, chopped

1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese

1 cup mayonnaise

1 can soup – cream of chicken, mushroom or celery (I use cream of chicken)

Mix above in a bowl.

Crush two rolls of Ritz crackers. Melt 1 stick margarine and mix with crackers.

Pour ½ of crackers into casserole dish. Pour in vegetable mixture and top with remaining crackers.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes, or until bubbly.

Cherries In The Snow

This is beautiful for Christmas.

1 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened

1 cup confectioners sugar

2 packs Dream Whip

1 cup milk

1 Angel Food Cake, sliced

1 can cherry pie filling

Mix cream cheese and confectioners sugar together.

Prepare Dream Whip and milk as directed on package.

Add cheese mixture to Dream Whip.

In oblong dish, or dish of choice, spread half of mixture over bottom of bowl. Lay slices of angel food cake over mixture and spread remainder of mixture over cake slices. Spread cherry pie filling over top.

Place in refrigerator and chill.
