The Francisco Ladies Auxiliary celebrated Mother’s Day by having their monthly meeting at Mt. View Restaurant in Pilot Mountain Monday evening. While there, they also honored Ashley Inman with a baby shower. Anna Dunkley said they enjoyed good food and a good time and were able to get home before dark. Gotta love this Daylight Saving Time!

There will be a Country Breakfast Benefit for Joe Hill Saturday morning, May 13, starting at 7:30 am, at the Peters Creek Community Building in Dry Pond, VA. Breakfast includes bacon, sausage, gravy, biscuits and other goodies. There will also be a bake sale, so go by and get a cake for Mother’s Day too! Joe has always been such a blessing to the community and has done work for most of the residents. The Peters Creek Community Building is located on Highway 103 right beside the Dry Pond Café. Please go out and support this worthy cause.

There will be Bingo at the Francisco Community Building Saturday, May 20. Hot dogs will be ready at 6:00 pm and the games start at 7:00 pm. The cost is $20 for 20 games. This is a cash prize Bingo and all the proceeds go to the Francisco Community Building. This event is sponsored by the Francisco Ruritan Club and everyone is invited to attend.

The Francisco Presbyterian Church is thrilled to welcome its new pastor, Rev. Will Eads. I’ve heard nothing but great comments from the church members concerning Rev. Eads. On behalf of the Francisco community, I say, “Welcome and glad you’re here!”

Please put Betty Overby and Ruth Jefferson on your prayer list. Miss Betty had a mishap going to the mailbox last week. Ann Jones, her daughter, said Betty is doing better. Ruth has had some ongoing health problems. Hope both of these sweet ladies will be up and going real soon.

And… Happy Mother’s Day to all moms who read this column. Mother’s Day, for me, took on a whole new meaning after my Mom died. I now envy the people who are at the card display at Walmart looking for that perfect card. But I’m blessed to have such wonderful memories of Mother’s Days past. Now that I have been a Mom for almost 24 years, I hope my Mom is looking down and saying, “I’m proud of you and the Mom you have become.” But I also know that she is laughing to herself and saying, “Yep, you learned from the best!”
