“I’m very happy to have Mr. Richardson on board as the new Viking Director of Athletics. He brings several years of experience to North that have already paid off for us in a positive way,” said North Stokes principal Nathan Rasey. “He’s very organized and has started the year by solidifying lines of communication. Our students have immediately taken a liking to him as well. I anticipate a great year for our athletic program.”
As athletic director Richardson replaces Trey Wiggins who made the move to Chestnut Grove Middle.
“I’m excited to be at the high school level and look forward to contributing to the athletic program here at North Stokes,” Richardson said. “I have really enjoyed getting to know the students and faculty over these first couple weeks and everyone has been great to work with.”
Richardson has spent the last five years at Chestnut Grove and served as their athletic director for the past three. He graduated from Surry Central in 2003 and went to UNC-Greensboro where he played four years of collegiate soccer and finished with a degree in exercise and sports science with a minor in coaching.
Richardson said he found out about the move on the last day of school and was caught a little off guard, but the transition has been a smooth one.
“A lot of people are depending on me to run a great program, and I look forward to the challenge.”
Richardson believes athletics are an important part of the school experience.
“These athletes are making memories that will last a long time and being involved in high school sports can teach athletes lifelong lessons. I’m happy to be a part of the North Stokes family and look forward to a great first year.”
