The Lady Vikings fell to East Surry for the second time this season Thursday night. North Stokes is now 5-8, 3-5 in the Northwest 1A Conference.
“There were moments that were nice, good solid team play and everything worked like clockwork and then there were times communication fell apart,” said Vikings coach Christine Condon. “We have to get better at communicating.”
The Cardinals edged North 25-21 in the first set, and took a wider margin in the next set 25-16.
North rallied in the third set, beating East Surry 25-18, but sputtered out in the fourth and final set 25-13.
“They want it so bad, sometimes too much that it can be blinding. There’s such an adrenaline rush that you make mistakes. But I think they played their hearts out,” Condon said.
The coach believes her team was smart with the ball, but still need to improve on passing.
“East Surry is always a tight team, and we have to be ready for them,” she said.
Junior Chandley Garner finished with 13 kills, four blocks, 19 digs, and 12 serve receives.
“She’s one that left it all on the court,” Condon said.
Before the match began, the program recognized their six graduating seniors: Lauren Charleville, Katie McHone, Carson Watkins, Ashley Smith, Megan Condon, and Tana Frye.
Each of the girls were strong contributors on Thursday.
Charleville finished with 11 kills, two blocks and nine digs. Condon had four aces, three kills, one block, nine digs and 31 assists. As libero, Frye had 30 digs and 27 serve receives. Watkins nine serve receives, and Smith ten.
The Lady Vikings travel to Atkins (2-10) on Thursday and West Stokes (9-9) on Monday, Oct. 12.
