West Stokes cross country team competed in Saturday’s 2A Midwest Regionals at Ivey Redmon in Kernersville. The ladies team placed eighth, the boys finished ninth out of 21 teams.
“This season has definitely been the most interesting of the 15 years I’ve been at West,” said coach Benji Knox. “We didn’t have a full team until late in the season so it was tough trying to get everyone in shape by regionals.”
Senior Kaitlyn Stone finished in second place with a time 18:38.56.
“She’s only lost one race this season which was a big invitational with three states participating. She has the fastest times in Stokes County history from the mile through 5k. She’ll be one of the favorites at the state meet,” Knox said.
Erin Duke finished in 29th place with a time of 22:38.15 along with Caroline Pulliam (52, 23:50.17), Anna McGhee (60, 24:23.67), Hanna Beissner (67, 24:38.42), Rebekah White (90, 26:02.88), and Katie Thompson (93, 26:15.15).
On the boys’ side, Josh Adkins came in third place out of 88 runners with a time of 16:53.95.
“Josh and Kaitlyn have been outstanding not only this year but their entire high school careers. They’ve been two of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached,” Knox said.
Knox has watched Adkins excel to become one of the best competitors in 2A mainly due to his work ethic.
“He’s been our leader this year and has a shot at breaking the school record of 16:32.”
Tony Bollman finished 52nd at the Midwest Regionals with a time of 19:28.50, followed by Collin Marot (53, 19:33.78), Chris Berrios (58, 19:42.67), Timmy Hurd (73, 20:15.65), Ben Davila (75, 20:17.47), and Tino Ramirez (77, 20:17.86).
