West Stokes remains undefeated after beating Elkin twice in the past two weeks, Winston Salem Christian and North Stokes 50-44 on Friday in a nonconference matchup.
“We didn’t play as smart we’d have liked down the stretch and North did a good job getting back in it,” said West Stokes coach Dan Spainhour. “I thought it was a good win. David (Anderson) has a great group.”
West took an early 28-17 lead in the first half with nine points from Josh Turner, who went on to score 19. The junior chipped in 26 points against Elkin earlier in the week.
“We could have played a little better, but getting this streak is going to be good for everyone,” Turner said.
North Stokes Andrew Lankford hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter followed by back-to-back baskets from Layton Helms cutting the Vikings margin by seven points. Jackson Moorefield added six points keeping North’s momentum alive and pushing the score 44-48.
“These teams really went at each other, but we came out on the short end,” said North Stokes coach David Anderson. “I’m proud of them and their effort. Right there at the end we had a chance to cut it to two and we missed a layup. I can’t fault their effort.”
Moorefield led the Vikings with 17 points. Logan Stevens added 8, Zach Chesnet 6, Lankford 5, and Austin Pruitt and Helms 4.
For West Stokes, Turner tallied 19, Andrew Spainhour 9, Kameron Wall 8, Reid Fulk 5, Gavin Parker 4, Wes Ayers 3, and Broderick Howard 2.
