South Stokes battled McMichael for a 61-57 win in overtime Thursday night.
“I thought we played well at times but struggled with our decision making during the third quarter. We rebounded the ball and that’s something we stressed going into this game so I’m glad we improved in that area,” said coach Jason Clark.
Senior Bryson Misenheimer led in scoring with 20 points and seven rebounds. Tre Scales had 14 points, six rebounds, five steals, and seven assists. Sophomore Ben Bowen chipped in 11 points and 20 rebounds.
South was down eight points with four minutes left to play, but fought back to take the lead by three. With seconds left in the game McMichael pushed it into overtime.
“The kids didn’t dwell on that shot. They came out and played well in overtime to win the game,” Clark said. “We’ve been in some close games and that helps later in the season when you have to play in those situations. If you haven’t been there it can be difficult at times when challenged that way.”
The Sauras move into WPAC play beginning Jan. 5 against Forbush.
“We still need to work on our execution and rebounding because that will be key going forward in the conference,” Clark said.
South went on to defeat Walkertown Monday night 59-55 improving their record 6-3.
