After four days out of the gym during Christmas break South Stokes came back strong dominating in a 75-38 win against Oak Level on Monday at North Stokes Christmas Invitational.
“They did pretty much what I expected them to do,” said South coach Jason Clark. “I’m glad we were able to come out here and play because it’s going to be getting tougher heading into the first of the year. We’ve been playing well as of late, and I think they’re continuing to grow.”
The score was 27-9 in the first quarter and 40-12 by halftime. Early in the game Clark utilized a number of athletes who hadn’t seen much playing time this season.
“It keeps them sharp. You never know when someone’s going to get in foul trouble or come in. It shows me what they can do in situations and what their strengths and weaknesses are,” he said.
Tre Scales didn’t play the entire game, but when he was on the court he was scoring. The junior led his team with 15 points. Newcomer to the team, Keelan Goodwin tacked on 14, Bryson Misenheimer, Andrew Tilley and Tre Haliburton each added 10.
“I’m tickled with what they’re doing, but this non-conference schedule doesn’t mean much. It’s what we do come January and in the conference that matters,” Clark said.
The coach praised his team for working and sharing the ball.
“We had a couple with eight assists a piece. In a game like this they could have been selfish and kept shooting but they worked together. They’re really playing well together. It’s a good group of kids.”
South hosts Forbush Tuesday night, Jan. 5 in their conference opener.
