“I thought they did well. We wrestled hard,” said Sauras coach Chad Amos.

Although South fell 45-31 to Surry Central in their second conference loss of the season, Amos said he’s seeing progress from a number of their wrestlers.

Ryan Rice pinned Derek Smith in the 120-pound weight class.

At 132, freshman Cooper Ross won by major decision.

“I’m encouraged by our young guys. Cooper had a good win. He’s been working hard and it’s paying off,” the coach said. “Lowell Shotten is a ninth grader. He’s in a tough weight class for our conference but he’s continuing to improve.”

John Kevin Fischer decisioned Angel Alvarez at 138.

Josh Patane scored a pin at 170.

“Josh is improving. I think he’s starting to take it more serious which will only help him get better,” the coach said.

South hosts West Stokes on Friday beginning at 7 p.m.
