Piney Grove basketball improving

The Piney Grove Panthers are plowing through their basketball season with a 10-4 record, considerably better than last year, according to coach Adam Carter.

“At the beginning of the season the guys had a hard time playing lock-down man-to-man defense. As the year went on we’ve gotten better at pressure defense and playing together on offense which makes us really dangerous,” he said.

Leading scorer Noah Smith has raked in an average of 12 points per game alongside Christian Shemo and Devin Stanley with 10. Dustin Bowman and Shemo have provided a strong defense and Isaac Wood has led his team in assists.

“I would really like to see them improve on pushing the basketball and playing an upbeat style,” Carter said. “Isaac Wood and Landon Stevens do a great job, but need to make better decisions with the ball once they have pushed it.”

Piney Grove’s game on Monday, Jan. 25 at Mount Airy and Tuesday’s home game against Central will be rescheduled. Visit http://www.pineygrove.stokes.k12.nc.us/ for updates. The Panthers travel to Southeastern on Thursday.
