Southeastern’s basketball team is 7-4 as they move through the remainder of the conference season.

“This year we’ve been stressing to the players to be a family. They’ve grown closer to each other forming a bond I hope they can carry on throughout their playing career,” said coach Chad Ryan.

Leading the middle school team in scoring has been Shemar Dalton, Daniel Fulk, and Amon Conrad.

Earlier in the season against Gentry Middle in Mount Airy Ryan said his team took the most charges, something they’ve put a lot of emphasis on.

“We played really well as a team on both ends of the floor,” the coach said. “I like they’re playing with a lot of energy and togetherness. I want them to learn how to play as a team and they’ve slowly been doing a better job of that. We can’t play as individuals and sometimes we get into a ‘me’ attitude.”

While the weather has kept the team from playing at school, the coach said a number of his players are still practicing at home with friends.

Southeastern hosts Piney Grove on Thursday, Jan. 28 and travels to Chestnut Grove in a rescheduled game Monday, Feb. 1. The conference tournament date is yet to be determined. Follow SSMS @WarrierStrong on Twitter for more details.
