South Stokes hosted 21 schools for the 2A Midwest Regionals on Friday and Saturday.
Sauras wrestling coach Chad Amos said the undertaking was a task, but was pleased with how it all came together.
“Tournament Director, Todd Tilley, did a wonderful job. We had our parents, families, friends, and South Stokes staff working the concession stand, the door, hospitality room, t-shirt table, and helping clean up afterwards. Pine Hall Elementary staff donated food and drinks for the hospitality room. Kim Overton from West Stokes organized getting some mat maids over to help us out working the score tables. We received many compliments from coaches, parents, and officials. I just want all of these people to know that the success of this tournament would not have happened without each and every one of them,” Amos said.
The coach was also pleased to have wrestler John Kevin Fischer qualify for the state championship next weekend at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Fisher, a senior in the 132-weight class, finished second in regionals and has gone 32-11 this season.
Alvin Reynolds (126) went 3-2 on Saturday, one match away from qualifying for states. He finished the season 30-19.
Steven Fatz (145) went 2-2 at regionals and 22-20 overall.
Freshman Lowell Shotten (106) went 1-2 at regionals, 11-20 overall and Manuel Espino (113) 1-2 on Saturday and 23-16 this season. Ryan Rice (120) finished 17-23 this season and Cooper Ross (139) 10-29 overall.
