Lawsonville Elementary and Piney Grove Middle joined together for the second annual Runnin’ 4 Kidz 5K and had 20 registered participants with 72 runners to cross the finish line.
“Each school will receive fifty percent of the proceeds. Lawsonville plans to use the money raised for much needed playground renovations. Piney Grove would like to use the money to supplement the cost of replacing library books which have been lost or damaged and to provide students access to updated material. Money will also be used to purchase breakfast for students, facility, and proctors during end of grade testing,” said event coordinator Amanda Tilley.
The 5k was estimated to bring in at least $2,300.
Tilley said runners traveled from as far as Danville, Va. to support the area schools.
“Family’s spent time together and there was a sense of community and fellowship present everywhere. Encouraging words were heard as each person crossed the finish line.”
Saturday’s overall winner was Jacob McGee, a freshman from North Stokes High School.
Other top finishers were Rachel Bingman in the girls 10 and under and Ethan Tilley in the boys ten and under. Medalists in the 11-14 age group were Lauren Collins and Curtis Sands, 15-19 Madison Sexton and Jacob McGee, 20-29 Dianna Kinney, 30-39 Angela Mabe and Trathen Stanberry, 40-49 Donna Martin and David Martin, 50-59 Jane Priddy-Charleville and Richard Ferfuson, and over 60 Marie Collins.
