North Stokes baseball team clinched their fifth win of the season after defeating Oak Level 10-9 at home on March 15. The Vikings found themselves down 8-1 going into the sixth inning.
“They have a pitcher, last name Cozart that throws upper 80’s as a freshman. We only scratched one run against him,” said North’s coach Stephen Sauer.
Jake Chesnet pitched three innings of relief.
The Vikings scored three in the sixth and five runs in the bottom of the seventh, all with two outs.
Chase Vaden had three hits and two triples, Austin Shelton knocked in the tying run and had three RBI’s. Layton Helms added multiple hits and earned the win by pitching the eighth inning. Cole Smith and Chesnet contributed at the plate.
“We won it in the eighth with a bases loaded walk to Chase Vaden,” Sauer said.
South defeats North
On Friday, North took their second loss this season to South Stokes 10-2. Saura Andrew Tilley started on the mound, and picked up the win for South going six innings allowing four hits, two runs, one earned, while striking out seven. Alex Owens came on in the seventh to close out the game facing four batters, giving up one hit and striking out three. Jake Carter, Alex Owens, Mason Dutton, Tanner Birkholz, Andrew Tilley, and Hunter Mikels each had one hit a piece for South. Carter and Mikels each had a double, while Mason Dutton picked up his first home run of the season in the third inning.
