Local hockey team finishes on top

The Squirt A team (U10) finished their inaugural season 35-7-3 earning first place in the Carolina Hockey League and went on to win the league tournament.

Youth hockey is alive and well in the Triad. Greensboro Youth Hockey and Winston Salem Youth Hockey have operated separate programs offering both rec and travel options for years. Last season, the two partnered their travel hockey programs to form The Triad Hockey Alliance. The result was eight better balanced, more competitive teams from U10-U18 playing under the name Triad Storm.

One of these teams, the Squirt A team (U10), had a very successful inaugural season. Playing in the Carolina Hockey League under the coaching of Jeff Markham, Jacob Dahlin, Brent Gates, and Dustin Koufman, the Squirt A team finished the regular season in first place and went on to win the league tournament. Their season also saw them bring home first place banners from Nashville, TN and Pittsburgh, PA along with runner-up in Charlotte. Overall the team finished with a record of 35-7-3 outscoring their opponents nearly two-to-one and scoring 238 goals while allowing only 122.

It’s never too late for your child to begin playing hockey. The three associations offer a variety of hockey programs which include Learn to Play and recreation and travel programs with players from the ages of 5 through 18.
