North Stokes track program is primed and ready to make a strong showing at Friday’s NCHSAA State Championship.

While both boys and girls teams finished second in the Northwest 1A Conference Championship the Vikings bounced back to clinch overall first place regional wins and qualified 24 athletes to compete at the state level at North Carolina A&T State University’s Belk Track.

“I think the girls did outstanding,” said Lady Vikings coach Rodney King. “Each girl gave their best and pushed hard. It was good to see Emma Frye have an outstanding regional.”

The junior PR’d in every event and went on to win the long and triple jump.

In the 800 meter run sophomore Karley Jessup won with a time of 2:28.78

Megan Condon PR’d in the shot and qualified for states in both the shot and discus. Bailey Bollman won the ladies pole vault.

“Our girl pole vaulters did an outstanding job along with all of our relay teams. It was a whole team effort to win,” King said. “The team came together and supported and encouraged each other. They have a goal in mind and they’re trying to achieve it.”

Senior Laith Nickell won the pole vault with a 13 foot jump and Zach Chesnet came in second.

Ross Lucia placed second in the shot put and discus.

Austin Pruitt finished second in the high jump and Dawson Durham second in the 1600 meter run.

“Our guys did a great job. Everyone who competed gave it their best and we had several personal records throughout the day,” said coach Mike Williams. “I’m very pleased with the work these guys have put in throughout the year and the effort on Saturday was what we needed.
