Wildcats tennis dominate season

West Stokes Ethan Elliott was named Western Piedmont Conference Player of the Year. The junior went on to win the first round of the NCHSAA singles tournament at Carey Tennis Park.

For the first time in school history, West Stokes tennis program advanced to the third of the NCHSAA playoffs after defeating Wilkes Central 7-2 and Forbush 5-4. The team clinched the WPAC conference championship and had three qualify and advance to regionals: Ethan Elliott, Noah Spainhour, Frank Sells and Andrew Spainhour in doubles.

Elliott competed in the NCHSAA singles tournament on May 13 at Carey Tennis Park pushing his way through the first round by defeating Cole Bryant from East Duplin 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3. The junior fell to Josh Schrader of Brevard who went on to win the state title.

Wildcats coach David Smith was named Western Piedmont Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Elliott was tapped WPAC Player of the Year and All-Conference nods went to: Elliott, Noah Spainhour, Frank Sells, and Andrew Spainhour.
