East Coast Basketball Camps are gearing up for their annual shooting and day camps being held this month at West Stokes High School.
The Day Camp is set for June 20 through 23 and runs from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. for boys and girls in rising third through tenth grade. The camp offers quality fundamental instruction and includes a t-shirt for each camper, daily skills contests and prizes, set camp record contests and provides opportunities to enter into East Coast Basketball’s Hall of Champions.
“The goal of our camp is to provide every camper, within a fun-filled atmosphere, the basic fundamentals necessary to play basketball,” said coach Dan Spainhour. “We emphasize the fundamentals. Every camper will be shown what to practice and more importantly how to practice. Everyone will receive plenty of individual attention. We want each camper to be a better player when it’s over.”
Spainhour has been directing camps for over 25 years. This season he led West Stokes to the second round of the state playoffs for the second consecutive year. He was also named Western Piedmont Conference coach of the year marking the 15th time he received such an honor. As a high school basketball coach, he’s collected 400 victories and won nearly 70% of his games. He also coached at Florida State University and at the University of Miami.
The Shooting Camp is slated for June 27-30 and runs from 8:30 a.m. until noon. It’s open to boys or girl in rising fifth through eleventh grade. Designed for the serious player it teach participants proper techniques to become a strong shooter and scorer. Spainhour and his staff conduct an intensive evaluation experience to provide each camper an opportunity to become an improved shooter.
“I truly believe that everyone with the proper teaching and practice skills can become a good shooter. That’s what this camp is about, giving youngsters the opportunity to learn the proper techniques and practice habits,” Spainhour said.
