While most football camps last a few days or even a week Mike Grayson’s Powerhouse Football Academy is offering a unique summer long football program on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
This summer Grayson kicked off a workout course combining speed and agility work with position fundamentals to stretch players out of their comfort zone.
“We’re doing things that most football programs don’t have the resources or time to do because of all the other things that have to be done. It’s an open gym to come as many or as few times as they want,” he said.
Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 until 11:30 are geared towards training for quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, linebackers and defensive backs.
Options are available to pay per session or throughout the summer.
“We try to keep everything very affordable. We want every young person to have an opportunity to improve in football,” Grayson said.
Offensive, defensive line, and tight ends are invited to attend the same days from 11 a.m. until 12.
Evening classes are also available from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
“They’ll learn some valuable fundamental techniques and that working hard can be fun. We have music playing and we encourage players of all levels to push themselves. We celebrate failures and successes. If you’re not failing then you’re not pushing yourself.”
Grayson believes players need to compete with themselves and not others when it comes to maximizing their abilities.
“If each player is making themselves better, then they ultimately make the team better! At the end of the day, we’re able to spend the extra time fundamentally with each player and they get more attention than at a football practice.”
Another draw for young developing players is training with college level athletes.
“I love having the college players come in because I like to learn also. They give a fresh perspective and college level drills to help our guys improve even more. It’s especially nice having coached them in high school and to get a chance to work beside them is awesome.”
The coach is passionate about helping athletes become better and maximize their God-given abilities.
“They leave each session soaking wet and with a smile on their face. I think that says it all.”
Classes are available for athletes eight and older. For more information call Mike Grayson at Powerhouse Training Facility in King at 336-985-6804.
