After swinging golf clubs at the course she helped build 23 years ago, Melrie Montgomery finally took her winning swing which resulted in sinking her first hole-in-one at Stonewall Golf Course in Germanton.

“I don’t think after 23 years I was expecting to hit a hole-in-one so it was really special,” she said.

The 74-year-old drove the memorable shot 86 yards with a nine iron on hole number six.

The golfer said several of her friends have scored a hole-in-one over the years, including her daughter.

According to Montgomery, she played golf for several years before helping build the Stonewall course and only started to play seriously when the course opened. Throughout her 23-years of playing, Montgomery said she’s come close to hitting hole in ones before, but each time the ball would simply go into the hole and bounce out.

The week after sinking the hole in one, the owner of Stonewall presented Montgomery with a trophy to commemorate the day.
