North Stokes traveled to Patrick County on Friday and fell 39-7 to the Cougars in their last game before the conference season kicks off on Friday.

“Our guys played a good first half on defense,” said Vikings head coach Mitch Reeves. “If not for the late score before halftime it would have been 13-7. We missed a couple of big play opportunities and couldn’t put a lengthy drive together on offense.”

Reeves said his team is continuing to improve on fundamentals and conditioning to help them play better the deeper they get into games.

Senior Tevan Carter scored in the first quarter after Austyn Garcia forced a fumbled in the backfield. Carter recovered the fumble and returned it 30 yards for the touchdown. Alex Rodriguez kicked the PAT.

“I’m proud of the guys for their continued hard work, but I’m especially grateful for the sophomores and freshmen that are playing up and contributing on Friday nights,” Reeves said.

North Stokes hosts Bishop McGuinness for a Northwest 1A conference matchup on Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
